Simply Waste Solutions can reveal that it has enabled the John Lewis Partnership to achieve a major landmark in its environmental strategy by diverting 95 percent of all waste away from landfill during 2013, thus enabling the retailer to hit a long-standing target.
The waste management company can also announce that it has also helped The Partnership reach its goal to recycle 75 per cent of all operational waste - a target only narrowly missed last year.
Speaking of these major achievements, Mike Walters, the John Lewis Partnership's Manager, Waste & Water Resource said, "This is a major milestone for The Partnership that will now spur us on to reaching our ultimate target of zero waste to landfill".
"Simply Waste Solutions has not only enabled us to more efficiently manage our end-of-first-life materials, but it also provides us with rich management data which is now actively allowing us to reduce the total amount of waste we produce", said Mike Walters.
As corporate environmental strategies come under increasing scrutiny, the importance of management data is becoming a crucial aid to objective setting, strategy implementation and results reporting. According to Mike Walters, "As soon as you can start measuring waste you can then begin to influence and reduce it".
Simply Waste Solutions MD James Capel commented, "As The Partnership's principal waste management partner we are proud to have played a part in its success so far. Our aim now is to eliminate the further 5% of waste that is currently sent to landfill and to identify new technologies and partners that will substantially increase The Partnership's overall recycling rate".
