Knowles Logistics has raised the bar for compliance and quality in the UK logistics sector by achieving the highest level of BRCGS AA accreditation across all four of its sites. The company says the recognition underlines its position as one of the most trusted partners to the food and drink industry.

The globally recognised certification is regarded as the gold standard for food safety and quality in warehousing and distribution. For Knowles, the accreditation represents a major milestone, ensuring consistent standards across its entire network. It builds on a strong portfolio of existing credentials, including BRC food-grade, Soil Association, TACSSC, Sedex and SMETA audits.

Known for its stringent internal standards, Knowles has long treated compliance as a strategic differentiator rather than a box-ticking exercise. The new accreditation further strengthens its capability to manage products in tightly regulated markets, guaranteeing robust traceability, risk management and hygiene.

The announcement comes as Knowles accelerates its environmental agenda through a comprehensive ESG programme, positioning itself as a sector leader on sustainability. The company has pledged to reach net zero in warehousing by 2030, and across its full operations — including transport — by 2045.

Concrete progress is already being made. Over 300,000 kWh of solar energy is generated annually across its estate, all sites run on 100% renewable electricity, and rainwater harvesting and circular waste initiatives are firmly in place.

In transport, Knowles is making waves with what is believed to be the UK’s largest electric HGV fleet, ranging from 7.5 to 42 tonnes. It was among the first to deploy Volvo FM Electric tractor units on commercial contracts and continues to expand its zero-emission fleet. Today, 90 out of its 103 forklifts are electrified, significantly reducing carbon emissions in materials handling.

The company’s decarbonisation strategy is underpinned by data and third-party validation, with emissions modelled across warehousing, handling and transport. This enables customers to track Scope 3 emissions and benefit from low-carbon or zero-emission supply chain solutions.

Managing Director Alex Knowles said the achievement was a clear signal of the company’s ethos. “We are absolutely delighted to have secured BRCGS AA accreditation across all four sites — it is an incredible achievement and one which is testament to the continued dedication of our team whilst also clearly demonstrating to our customers that compliance and quality are an integral part of our DNA.”

He added: “By securing this top-tier accreditation across our network and continuing to invest heavily in our ESG strategy, Knowles Logistics demonstrates its readiness to meet the demands of the supply chains of the future — those that require world-class compliance, environmental leadership, and quality service.”
