WIX selects latest TGW technologies for the automated expansion of its Master Distribution Centre located in Gastonia, North Carolina. The integrated materials handling solution includes an expandable two-aisle STINGRAY Shuttle System, assuring WIX's continued success.
TGW Systems (USA) has been awarded a new project for an automated storage and picking system to be installed at WIX Filtration's Master DC located in Gastonia, North Carolina. TGW was also awarded a simulation contract for the project that led to the automated system design.
WIX Filtration started operations in 1939 and has become one of the world leaders in the design, manufacture and distribution of filtration products, spanning markets that include automotive, diesel, agricultural, industrial and specialty. With manufacturing facilities on four continents, WIX produces more than 12,000 different product numbers.
Goods-to-Person Picking Strategy
TGW is deploying a "goods-to-person" picking strategy based on an automated shuttle storage system. The TGW Systems solution will be constructed in an existing 10 metre (33') clear distribution centre and will consist of two aisles of STINGRAY Shuttles with Twister load handlers storing nearly 19,000 cartons, double deep. The system has expansion capability to add a third aisle. In addition to the new shuttle system, TGW is also supplying an automated conveyor sortation system that will connect the shuttle system to four ergonomically designed picking workstations that will include replenishment and pack stations.
TGW's 1000th shuttle
The WIX order is a milestone for both TGW and WIX. With this order, TGW has sold its 1000th shuttle as a part of the dynamic TGW STINGRAY shuttle system. TGW has closed 10 worldwide shuttle orders in the last 1.5 years, to well-known companies like Weltbild, Coop, Kärcher, Gap, Frit Ravich and a number of other satisfied customers.
