New research reveals that the introduction of technology in warehouses is positively impacting the mental health of 56% of workers, according to The Warehouse Workers Mental Health Report 2025 from StoreFeeder.
The study, which surveyed 500 warehouse employees across the UK, highlights how various technological tools are helping to ease the mental strain commonly associated with warehouse roles.
Despite over 40% of workers reporting that their mental health has suffered due to work pressures, technology is proving to be a valuable aid in improving wellbeing.
Larger warehouses are more likely to have adopted technological solutions, resulting in a more significant positive effect on employees’ mental health across all levels of seniority.
Barcode scanning and despatch processes are identified as having the greatest overall benefit, improving mental health for 50% of respondents.
Automated reporting and access to technical support follow closely, each positively affecting 42.5% of workers.
Entry-level employees, who frequently engage with technology on the warehouse floor, report the highest improvements in mental health.
Intelligent routing, for example, benefits 40% of workers overall, but this figure rises to 60% among those at entry level.
Junior and middle management staff find easy access to reports especially helpful for their wellbeing, while senior professionals gain most from efficiency-enhancing technologies like barcode scanning and despatch systems.
Ian Dade, Operations Manager at StoreFeeder, commented: “The Warehouse Workers Mental Health Report 2025 highlights the pressing mental health challenges faced by warehouse workers, particularly during peak seasons and in larger operations.
"These challenges—driven by delivery time pressures, lack of managerial support, and inadequate workplace measures—underscore the need for innovative solutions.
"StoreFeeder’s warehouse management system (WMS) emerges as a powerful tool to address these concerns. By streamlining operations, improving workflow efficiency, and integrating technology to reduce manual strain.”
The report also noted that paperless technology plays an important role in supporting the mental health of 40% of warehouse workers, further illustrating the broad benefits of digital transformation in the sector.
As warehouses increasingly adopt technology, the positive impact on mental health is expected to grow, offering hope for improved worker wellbeing across the industry.
