Ryder is the first customer to take delivery of the new DAF factory-built Aero body, available on DAF LF 7.5 - 12 tonne GVW trucks, which was launched at the end of February 2012.
Ryder has taken delivery of an initial two 7.5 tonnes LF45.160's that will be trialled on Ryder's rental fleet. This is the first time that DAF have produced such models which have been developed to reduce fuel efficiency by up to 8% versus a comparable square box body with a simple roof fairing. At the same time, the unique body has been designed to avoid adversely impacting load carrying capacity or loading ability.

Their enhanced fuel efficiency will particularly benefit customers involved in longer distance motorway-type journeys.
"When optimising a truck body design for aerodynamic performance, a drawback can often be the impact on load capacity and loading ability because of the resultant shape of the body. These DAF Aero bodies are factory-built to ensure consistent quality, and the design has been developed with a clear focus on the commercial requirements of our customers. The usable cubic capacity will still be around 98% of that of a square box of equivalent overall dimensions. This is achieved as a result of the front bulkhead being designed to be the same size as the rear aperture so that if the load will fit through the rear shutter, it can be stacked against the front bulkhead, or elsewhere in the body. This is a real positive for our customers as there is no wasted space within the load compartment as a result of the vehicle's aerodynamic design."
The two new Ryder Aero bodied vehicles carry unique body decals and will be made available on the company's rental fleet immediately. A decision on whether to procure further versions will be made following feedback from the trial.
