Richard Austin Alloys Become Mobile

SSI Schaefer has just completed the installation of two Mobile Cantilever Systems for Richard Austin Alloys Ltd, having beaten off stiff competition from another manufacturer of mobile racking.

Richard Austin Alloys (R.A.Alloys) is a company wholly owned by its working directors. Their successful reputation has been built up by treating all of their customers with the same high standards of service and quality - a trait that R.A.Alloys felt was missing from some stockholders in the industry when they formed in 1981. The success that has followed since adopting this principle throughout their organisation has resulted in R.A.Alloys becoming one of the largest aluminium and stainless steel stockholders in the UK.

Operating out of four depots throughout the country, R.A.Alloys made the decision to extend their warehouse in Manchester in order to keep up with and satisfy the needs and instant demands of their current customers and future customer potential. Their aim was for additional storage using a system that could provide maximum use of the available space, whilst at the same time achieving instant access to every product load.

Following a number of detailed discussions that took place over several months, R.A.Alloys placed an order with SSI Schaefer to install two Mobile Cantilever Systems - one system to be located in the new extension and the other within the existing warehouse. John Dixon, leading Mobile Racking Specialist for SSI Schaefer, led the project.

John Dixon said:

"Using a team of specialist design estimators, structural engineers, project managers and after sales engineers, SSI Schaefer provided R.A.Alloys with a clean installation that offered the best solution for their current needs, ensuring optimum utilisation of building space and height, which was delivered on time, within budget and to the customer's satisfaction."

The total system encompasses mobile and static racking, providing storage for over 4,000 tonnes of product. Each mobile rack is capable of accommodating 500 tonnes of product and can be operated directly from forklift trucks, providing immediate access to the required aisle.

The system provides an 80% saving of floor space over conventional wide-aisle static storage methods.

The management team at R.A.Alloys were so pleased with the two completed installations of Mobile Cantilever Racking Systems in Manchester that they have subsequently ordered a further system for one of their other depots.

SSI Schaefer Mobile Cantilever Racking Systems are the ideal storage solution for oversized goods or bulky items.
