Braby, one of the UK's largest manufacturers of aluminium silos are amongst a group of industrial names to support a gruelling 3700 mile charity rally to Gambia.
Braby, Motan, Tria, Regloplas, Celsius Refrigeration, ST Conveyors, Harcostar Drums Limited and Mouldshop are supporting Karl Shields of K-Tech Plastics Machinery, and his brother Andre, take part in the challenge which left Plymouth on Boxing Day.
Established in 2002 by the adventurer Julian Nowell, the concept behind the rally is to buy an old car in the UK and drive it across Africa to Banjul in the Gambia, auctioning the car on arrival and donating the proceeds to local charities.
Paul Mayer, sales and marketing director of Braby says: "This is a very worthy cause and Braby wish Karl and Andre the best of luck – particularly when crossing the Sahara desert."
Karl and Andre plan to head South through Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and Senegal before eventually arriving in Banjul. The three week route travels mostly on tarmac roads, but the highlight is the two-day crossing of the Sahara Desert. The journey is now in its seventh year has attracted hundreds of entrants from around the world.
