North West businesses are being encouraged to enter the North West Awards 2014 for Education and Excellence, which launch today. The awards will be presented during a Gala Dinner on 20th June 2014, hosted by Chief Reporter of BBC North West Tonight Dave Guest, and will be a celebration of the best in the passenger and freight sectors of the transport Industry. They will be held at the prestigious new Liverpool Titanic Hotel, currently being developed as part of the hotel and conference centre complex at Liverpool's Stanley Dock Village, five minutes from the city centre.
The 2014 awards will be part of the International Festival of Business being held in June and July 2014. This will be UK's first ever such festival, the purpose of which is to accelerate the nation's economic growth, deliver foreign and direct investment, and increase exports.
National companies such as Peel Ports, the Stobart Group and Toyota Materials Handling are amongst the organisations sponsoring the prestigious awards.
The Award categories are:
• Student of the Year Sponsored by Backhouse Jones
This award is for an individual who has exceeded the general expectations of his or her nominator, and/or whose work will benefit or has benefited the logistics and transport sector in the north-west.
• Young Freight Logistics Manager of the Year Sponsored by Search Consultancy
For outstanding achievements beyond what is normally expected from a manager of this age and experience.
• Young Passenger Transport Manager of the Year
This award is for excellence in any of the functions relating to the management of passenger transport, including operational management and supporting functions.
• Service to the Industry in Freight Logistics Sponsored by Jam Recruitment
Recognises a significant and sustained contribution to the success of the industry by an individual who has gone consistently beyond the call of normal duty to improve and promote the freight transport, haulage and logistics for its users or the wider community.
• Service to the Industry in Passenger Transport
Recognises a significant and sustained contribution, to the success of the industry by an individual who has gone consistently beyond the call of normal duty to improve and promote the passenger transport industry for its users or the wider community.
• Lifetime Achievement Award Sponsored by DSV Air & Sea Corporate
Made to an individual who has not only made an outstanding contribution to the logistics and transport industry in and/or on behalf of the north-west, but has also made a major contribution to the improvement of the profession, proactively using Institute membership for the benefit of others throughout his or her career.
Awards categories
There are six categories with 10 awards that recognise individuals and organisations that have excelled and added value or changed perceptions within the industry for the benefit of the North West Region and beyond.
• Best Practice Award for Freight Logistics Sponsored by Stobart Group
For outstanding achievement in any aspect of freight transport, haulage and logistics, including operations, processes and service, in any mode or combination of modes.
• Best Practice Award for Passenger Transport
For outstanding achievement in any aspect of passenger transport, including operations, processes and service, in any mode or combination of modes.
• Award for Environmental Improvement in Freight Logistics Sponsored by Toyota Manual Handling
For outstanding achievement in the reduction of environmental impact of a freight transport operation.
• Award for Environmental Improvement in Passenger Transport
For outstanding achievement in the reduction of environmental impact of a passenger transport operation, including reduction in emissions.
The Region committee is extremely grateful to all the sponsoring organisations, which will be announced over a rolling programme. Their contribution means that ticket prices for the champagne reception, three-course meal and entertainment can be kept at £35 + VAT.
