Konecranes industrial cranes win two Siemens India power station contracts

Konecranes UK's Industrial Crane Division in East Kilbride has won the crane supply contracts for two power station projects in India.


The projects are being handled by Siemens AG, Germany and Siemens Ltd. India EPC Contracts with Torrent Power Ltd for UNOSUGEN (this is a 382.5 MW Gas based Combined Cycle Power Project-the capacity expansion at the existing SUGEN Mega Power Project) and for the greenfield DGEN Project at Dahej SEZ (this is a 1200 MW Gas based Combined Cycle Power Project).


The UNOSUGEN order is for a 370/20/2 tonne SMD crane at 28 metres span for the turbine hall. The crane will be fitted with KONECRANES renowned technology components including KONECRANES DynA Invertor variable speed control on all motions with the added feature of ESR (Extended Speed Range) on the main hoist and KONECRANES REMOX radio control with back up pendant. All hoists feature KONECRANES ControlPro Monitors where the unit monitors the hoist operation, providing overload detection, brake wear monitoring, and calculates the crane hoist duty allowing 100% planning of maintenance activities to suit the actual duty. The unit also stores and records the number of cycles, overload attempts and temperature trips.


The crane will also be fitted with travel and traverse limit switches, along with girder and trolley platforms, festoon cables, floodlights, panel lighting, motor and panel heating. A special feature will be the ability for remote monitoring of all the crane functions which will enable any developing problems to be diagnosed and dealt with in advance of causing any operational problems.


Delivery FAS Antwerp is scheduled for May 2011.


The DGEN Project will be supplied with 6 SMD cranes. Three cranes are 425 tonnes each with 30.88mt spans and the other three at 80 tonnes. The 80 tonne cranes will be fitted with 3.2 t auxiliary hoists running on a runway at the side of the main girder. The 425t cranes will each also have a 20t auxiliary hoist fitted with a special device for handling the turbine rotor shafts and there is also a 3.2 auxiliary hoist. As with the UNOSUGEN crane, these will all have the Konecranes range of components and controls, and unique status anytime monitoring which will enable any developing problems to be diagnosed and dealt with in advance of causing any operational problems.


The 425t cranes will each also have a 20t and a 3.2 t auxiliary hoist fitted with a special device for going round the rotary shafts. As with the UNOSUGEN crane, these cranes will all have the Konecranes range of components and controls and they will have anti-collision between 425t and 80t cranes which operate with 2 cranes per track.


Delivery for this contract is FAS Antwerp and will commence in October 2011 with completion targeted for February 2012.


The cranes for both contracts will be designed and built in KONCRANES UK factory at East Kilbride near Glasgow.
