The Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza, South Cerney Airfield, Cirencester, Friday 5th - Sunday 7th August 2011.
The Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza, now in its 37th year, has moved to a larger venue at South Cerney Airfield, Cirencester, for 2011. From Friday 5th - Sunday 7th August 2011 the extravaganza will attract more than 15,000 visitors and raise money for local and national charities.
The show was originally conceived for steam enthusiasts, but the range of exhibits has grown year on year. It now boasts a huge array of vintage transport, from buses & coaches, commercial vehicles, classic cars and motorcycles through to military vehicles, tractors, industrial trucks, engines and historic caravans. A live action arena will be an integral part of the show with interactive demonstrations taking place every day, and the popular steam driven vintage fun fair offers thrills and spills for young and old alike. Hundreds of curiosity stalls should also keep visitors engrossed for hours with displays of Victorian memorabilia ranging from antique sewing and knitting machines and model dolls houses to vintage garden tools and 1940s - 1950's home wares.
World Record Attempt to get the Largest Gathering of Industrial Trucks!
In five years the Light Industrial Truck section has risen from a modest 4 exhibits to 30 + in 2010, in the past these small trucks were out on a limb at rallies with no particular identity, now by exhibiting at the Gloucestershire Steam & Vintage Extravaganza and making it main gathering for these trucks they now have a place in the rally calendar and a national focal point for these trucks to be displayed.
These small manoeuvrable trucks were the mainstay of British Industry keeping production lines going and transporting finished goods around factories, stations and docks, the smaller trucks kept Market Gardens and Nurseries on the go.
This year will see the Industrial Truck section attempt to establish a record for the most amount of exhibits on a showground. Section Leader Pete Merrett is reluctent to claim it as a "world record attempt", but with his goal of gathering as many different makes, models and type of Industrial Truck as possible, it is pretty hard to call it anything else!
A free vintage bus service will be operating to and from Kemble railway station throughout the show to connect with selected First Great Western Trains. For details of the bus schedule, please refer to the website www.steamextravaganza.com. Buses will depart from outside the main show entrance.
