A new generation of pallet designed to meet tightening sustainability rules and modern supply chain demands has been launched by Tosca in partnership with Cabka.
The Euro-sized circular pallet, unveiled this week, is aimed at FMCG businesses facing increasing pressure to balance efficiency with stricter environmental regulations, including the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
Developers say the new CP 1208 pallet offers a reusable, automation-ready alternative to traditional one-way packaging, while maintaining compatibility with existing systems.
“With increasing automation, tighter regulations, and rising sustainability expectations across FMCG and retailers’ supply chains, the demands placed on pallets are evolving,” said Laurent Le Mercier, EMEA president at Tosca.
“Our new circular pallet gives producers, growers, and retailers a standardised, automation-ready, PPWR-compliant alternative that improves efficiency, enhances worker safety, and supports a truly circular supply chain without disrupting existing operations.”
Built to standard 1200 x 800mm Euro pallet dimensions, the design allows businesses to integrate the pallet into current handling systems without costly upgrades.
Rounded skid edges are intended to reduce damage during forklift handling, while the structure provides a stable platform suited to automated, high-throughput environments.
The pallet has been developed using recycled plastic, with manufacturers highlighting both performance and sustainability benefits.
“This pallet demonstrates what circular logistics should look like in practice,” said Alex Masharov, chief executive of Cabka.
“By transforming recycled plastic into high-performance transport assets, we enable supply chains that are both more efficient and more sustainable.”
He added that the partnership aims to show how circular materials can become “the new standard for FMCG, retail and wider logistics”.
The CP 1208 is also designed to work alongside reusable plastic crates, with integrated grooves allowing loads to be secured without strapping.
RFID technology has been incorporated to improve tracking and supply chain visibility, supporting asset management and traceability.
In addition to efficiency gains, the pallet is positioned as a more hygienic and durable alternative to wooden pallets.
Its non-porous, splinter-free construction is easier to clean and includes drainage features to prevent water build-up, helping to reduce contamination risks in food and retail environments.
The lighter design — more than 4kg less than traditional wooden pallets — is also intended to improve handling.
“In high-throughput environments, efficiency and worker safety go hand in hand,” Mr Le Mercier said.
“By improving stability, grip and ease of handling, the Tosca CP 1208 helps reduce manual strain and the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, creating safer working conditions while supporting operational performance.”
The launch comes as supply chains adapt to new regulatory requirements, with increasing emphasis on reusable, recyclable and traceable packaging systems.
Manufacturers say the pallet has been designed to support compliance with PPWR and extended producer responsibility (EPR) frameworks, offering a longer-lasting alternative to wooden pallets, which often require treatment and are less suited to reuse models.
Made from recycled materials and designed for repair and reuse, the pallet forms part of a wider push towards circular economy principles within logistics.
“At Tosca, we don’t simply supply a pallet,” Mr Le Mercier said.
“We partner with customers to manage assets and deliver supply chain performance, meet regulatory requirements, and turn circularity into a lasting competitive advantage.”
The company said the new product marks the next step in its efforts to help food and beverage supply chains improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
