Hyundai Construction Equipment has launched a new 28-tonne materials handler in Europe, offering greater lifting reach, improved visibility and increased stability for demanding handling operations.

The HW270A MH has been developed specifically for medium to heavy-duty applications, including waste management, scrap metal processing and port loading operations.

Unlike conventional wheeled excavators, the new machine features a longer and wider undercarriage, with front and rear outriggers designed to provide greater stability when lifting heavy loads at extended reach.

Customers can choose between straight and gooseneck arm configurations, allowing the machine to be adapted to different materials handling requirements.

Maximum working reach is up to 12.41 metres, while the maximum bucket pin height is 5.4 metres.

The handler can also operate with a range of attachments, including orange peel grapples and clamshell buckets, making it suitable for several industrial applications.

Power comes from a six-cylinder Stage V diesel engine producing 141kW, equivalent to 189hp.

The engine features a variable pressure turbocharger designed to optimise airflow, helping to deliver responsive performance while maintaining fuel economy.

A standard reversible cooling fan is also included to support efficiency and reduce downtime when operating in dusty environments.

Hyundai has equipped the machine with an electronically controlled twin-pump hydraulic system, which works alongside the engine management system to balance performance and fuel consumption.

A one-touch Power Boost function provides additional hydraulic performance when tackling demanding lifting or digging operations.

An additional axial piston motor drives a two-stage planetary reduction gear swing motor, designed to deliver increased torque and faster slewing speeds.

The machine uses a two-speed powershift transmission, with operators able to select different travel speeds depending on the working environment.

These range from 4km/h in creep mode to 9km/h and 19km/h in low and high-speed settings respectively.

Automatic multi-disc brakes are released when the transmission pedal is pressed, while a spring-applied, hydraulically released parking brake operates on the transmission shaft.

A major feature of the HW270A MH is its hydraulically elevating operator cab, which can rise by up to 2.6 metres.

This provides operators with a clearer view of the surrounding work area, particularly when loading trucks, containers or elevated hoppers.

An emergency cab descent system allows the operator to lower the cab safely if engine power is lost.

The ROPS/FOPS-certified cab includes air conditioning, a reclining seat with lumbar support and optional heating.

Large windows and a standard rear-view camera provide visibility around the machine.

Hyundai has also fitted its Advanced Around View Monitoring (AAVM) system as standard, using 360-degree cameras to help operators monitor their surroundings.

A virtual wall system is designed to prevent collisions with nearby obstacles, while an overload warning system provides additional protection during lifting operations.

The operator's seat and control console can be adjusted independently, allowing drivers to customise the working position.

A seven-inch colour monitor and toggle controls provide access to machine settings, while selectable power modes allow operators to adjust the balance between performance and economy.

Standard joystick steering is intended to reduce operator effort and fatigue during extended working periods.

Maintenance accessibility has also been considered, with service points positioned around the upper structure to simplify inspections and routine servicing.

The HW270A MH comes with Hyundai's Hi-MATE telematics system, allowing owners and dealers to monitor machine performance and operating information remotely.

The technology also provides remote diagnostic capabilities, helping service technicians identify potential faults and prepare the necessary replacement parts before attending a machine.

Hyundai says the new handler has been designed to provide a dedicated alternative to traditional excavator-based handling equipment, particularly where visibility, stability and repetitive lifting performance are essential.

Natalia Barbieri, EU Product Manager, said: "The HW270A MH has been specifically built for materials handling operations, delivering increased operator awareness, protection from overloads and collisions, and precise control from a commanding driving position."

The company believes the combination of a purpose-built undercarriage, elevated cab and electronically controlled hydraulics will help businesses improve efficiency across different materials handling applications.

"With a driveline that has been engineered for performance, the HW270A MH provides a new level of productivity for a wide range of handling applications," Barbieri added.

The launch expands Hyundai's range of specialist handling equipment as the manufacturer continues developing machinery tailored to the requirements of waste processing, recycling and industrial materials handling businesses.
