Warehouse robotics specialist Exotec has rolled out its Skypod system at Berrang Group’s newly built facility in Ingersheim, as the fastening wholesaler steps up its just-in-time supply capabilities.
The partnership sees the automation technology installed at Berrang’s warehouse in Baden-Württemberg, which serves customers across the automotive, optoelectronics, medical technology and mechanical engineering sectors.
Berrang supplies a wide range of C-parts, from screws, nuts and bolts to fully pre-assembled components, and required an intralogistics system capable of handling high volumes of small parts while meeting strict delivery windows.
The Skypod system, now fully operational, manages more than 23,000 bins and 7,000 trays within racking that reaches 12 metres in height.
According to Exotec, the installation achieves a throughput of 137 bin movements per hour, designed to support the fast-paced requirements of Berrang’s small-parts business.
Andreas Essewein, project manager for logistics and operations planning at Berrang, said the technology was well suited to the company’s model.
"The Skypod system is highly flexible and ideal for our just-in-time delivery requirements at Berrang, where every single minute matters," he said.
He added that implementation had been supported closely by Exotec, with efficiency gains already visible in day-to-day operations.
"The strong support from Exotec has been extremely helpful during implementation and is already paying off as our warehouse operations have become more efficient."
For Exotec, the project highlights the role of scalable robotics in supporting industrial suppliers operating under tight production schedules.
Andreas Stöckl, executive vice president of sales at Exotec, said the installation demonstrated the system’s suitability for demanding sectors.
"This project demonstrates the potential of the Skypod system for suppliers serving production and industry, even under the strictest requirements in highly specialised sectors, especially where the smooth supply of manufacturing facilities is paramount," he said.
He added that the company was pleased with the level of collaboration achieved during the project and the confidence shown by Berrang in adopting the system.
With automation increasingly central to warehouse efficiency and supply chain resilience, the Ingersheim site marks another example of robotics being deployed to secure reliable, time-critical delivery for industrial customers.
