Dynamic is the name of the game for Speedy products

Global window furnishing specialist Speedy Products has chosen Dynamic Systems to supply a new storage and picking system for its National Distribution Centre (NDC) in Manchester.

Following a period of rapid development, during which it acquired a major Chinese drapery hardware manufacturer, Speedy reviewed its supply chain operation and stocking procedures within the UK. Concluding that an overhaul of its current system was required, Speedy chose Dynamic Systems from a number of competitors to come up with an effective solution.

Part of Speedy's NDC is situated within a large Victorian building spread over three floors. Because of the design restrictions this placed on the project, Dynamic Systems liaised closely with the structural engineers to make sure the new system could be accommodated with as little modification as possible. The exact positioning of the system on the floor beams of the building's original wooden floors was crucial and every detail had to be accurate.

The final design for the building sited a carton-live picking system on the second floor, creating 580 pick faces and 2230 total storage locations for tote bins containing accessories such as curtain rings and finials. The third floor contains a longspan shelving system for the storage and picking of around 32,000 curtain poles.

"The Dynamic Systems team has a very professional attitude and worked closely with our own people to design the ideal storage and picking system for our National Distribution Centre," says Steve Carr, General Manager of Speedy Products. "They approached what was a challenging brief in a positive and creative way and came up with a solution that really worked for us."

Speedy's new system will enable its NDC to operate with greater speed and accuracy, improving the service the company provides to its many UK stockists and other customers such as bespoke furnishing outlets.

Dynamic Systems has built an impressive reputation for providing tailored solutions to clients, helping them achieve the most cost-effective warehouse and logistics operations whilst improving profitability. Many systems can fit easily into existing installations, minimising down-time and maintaining productivity.
