CHEP pallet and container pooling services appoints Director Sustainability

CHEP, a global leader in pallet and container pooling services, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Juan Jose Freijo to the new post of Director, Sustainability, CHEP Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA).

Sustainability is one of CHEP's key strategic initiatives. Dr Freijo will lead a team focusing on the delivery of sustainable solutions and products to CHEP customers and continued energy efficiency, sustainable sourcing and emissions reduction programs.

Dolph Westerbos, Group President for CHEP EMEA, said: "Environmental sustainability is fundamental to the way CHEP does business. We act with integrity and respect for the community and the environment in everything that we do.

"Juan Jose has responsibility for building and implementing our sustainability vision across the EMEA region. He brings a vast amount of experience to this role, coupled with a real passion to help CHEP become recognised as a leading green brand providing the best environmental supply chain solutions. Given our unique insight into the supply chain sector, we are in a strong position to identify significant transportation synergies for our customers."

Commenting on his new role, Dr Freijo said "CHEP has a strong sustainability proposition. Thanks to the inherent sustainability of our pallet pooling model and our extensive network, CHEP's sustainability credentials offer a real difference in the market compared with single-use white wood pallets and other pooling companies. I am really excited about some of the initiatives we already have underway."

Dr Freijo joined CHEP in 2005 as a Manager in Central Planning and Logistics. Recently, he has been working as part of its Supply Chain team, leading the sustainability agenda for EMEA. Prior to joining CHEP, he held senior posts at Deloitte and Lucent Technologies. He has a Master's degree in Environmental and Sustainability Management from the EOI business school in Madrid and a PhD in Physics.
