Logistics specialist P&O Ferrymasters has been awarded a two-year extension of its British Retail Consortium (BRC) accreditation for the transport of packed, temperature controlled food products.
The company's processes and facilities were originally accredited a year ago following an audit by the business assurance arm of Det Norske Veritas. BRC certification marks compliance with the Global Standard for Storage & Distribution Issue 2 September 2010, which includes the carriage of chilled, frozen and ambient food packaged as consumer products.
"An extension to 2015 underlines the quality of our Europe-wide reefer activities" says Vleming Geerligs, general manager of trailer operations.
"Accreditation is essential for retaining and gaining customers in this sector, so a renewal of this length will definitely enhance our growth strategy."
P&O Ferrymasters is already one of Europe's biggest providers of tailor-made transport, logistics and supply chain solutions and serves a diverse range of businesses. As a market leader in temperature controlled logistics services - which are also HACCP certified and SQAS assessed - it moves some 25,000 loads per year using dedicated reefer trailers with up to 24-tonne capacity. The company is part of P&O Ferries - owned by Dubai World - and operates from 25 strategic locations in 12 countries across Europe.
The BRC ensures product and service standards at each stage of the retail chain from manufacture to supply and sale. Accreditation of food production, storage and distribution supports monitoring by quality control professionals on every aspect of quality, safety and hygiene - from the condition of premises to the provenance of ingredients.
