PETeC, a national prototyping institute for the development and commercialisation of printed electronics, based in North East England, has made a key appointment to its rapidly expanding team.
Yong Uk Lee, born and raised in Korea, takes up the role of senior electronic device process developer. In his new position Yong Uk will manage a team to ensure new innovative processes developed at the centre are industrially and commercially viable.
PETeC, managed by the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), will offer access to highly skilled expertise and state of the art equipment with the aim of de-risking industrial research and development in printed electronics, creating a clear route between an innovative idea and a marketable product. The facility is designed to be an ideal platform for both start-ups and larger manufacturing companies to get prototype production up and running.
Yong Uk brings seven years of experience in the area of flexible and printable electronics having developed key projects in the field for multinational companies Samsung Electronics Co. and Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI).
Commenting on his appointment Yong Uk said, "It's a great honour to have such a key role in the development of new frontier technologies at PETeC. I'm particularly looking forward to working and exploring opportunities in the plastic electronic industry here in the UK"
Customers of the centre will be able to test design concepts and novel materials for a variety of products including Organic Thin Film Transistors (OTFT) for flexible displays including E-paper, Organic Photovoltaic cells (OPVs) and Solid State Lighting (SSL).
Tom Taylor, project director for PETeC, commented "The development and commercialisation of plastic electronics on an international level requires a multi-disciplinary approach. Yong Uk brings a wide range of knowledge and expertise in the sector. He will assist the team in remaining focused on producing new technologies and processes that will succeed on a commercial level as well as providing a key link to potential customers in Korea."
Tom added "With the right balance of skills and equipment PETeC can support the burgeoning plastic electronics industry, drawing in customers on a global scale and cementing the UK as a leading commercial player."
