Vodafone McLaren Mercedes and Mobil Delvac 1™ launch inaugural Truck Driver Efficiency Competition

Competition focused on rewarding safe and fuel efficient driving

· Competition to run for the duration of the 2013 Formula 1™ 'European' season

· Recognition for winner, runner-up and most improved drivers

· Mobil Delvac 1™ LE 5W-30 and Mobilube 1 SHC™ 75W-90 will help to optimise the fuel economy of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes truck fleet

As the Formula 1™ season heads to Britain, ExxonMobil Fuels & Lubricants and Vodafone McLaren Mercedes have teamed up to create a driver-efficiency competition that sees the team's truck drivers going toe to toe as they compete for maximum points at races including Spain, Monaco and Britain.

A skills and efficiency challenge, the competition is open to the 17 commercial vehicle drivers that will support the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team during the 2013 season. Following the Grand Prix scoring system (e.g. 25 points for first place), points are awarded after each race weekend, with each driver being monitored individually against the following criteria:

1)Pedal movement - levels of throttle pressure and brake pedal usage.

2)Engine operation - measurement of optimum engine usage.

3)Idle consumption - degree of idle consumption.

4)Coasting - level of vehicle coasting.

The competition, which began at the start of the Spanish Grand Prix (May 12, 2013), will run until the Italian Grand Prix (September 8, 2013). The ultimate prize will be £500 in shopping vouchers, a grandstand ticket to the British Grand Prix in 2014, and a trophy to be awarded at a prize dinner in November 2013. There will also be a runner-up prize and an award for the most improved driver of the season.

As part of the overall drive to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes truck fleet, Mobil Delvac 1™ LE 5W-30 heavy-duty diesel engine oil and Mobilube 1 SHC™ 75W-90 gear and rear axle oil, are being used in the Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks. Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W-30 is an advanced heavy-duty diesel engine oil that can meet the technical requirements of current and latest engines meeting Euro VI emission limits, and deliver valuable sustainability-related benefits, including enhanced fuel economy potential. Mobilube 1 SHC 75W-90 is a fully-synthetic, supreme performance commercial gear lubricant, suitable for total driveline application.

Martin Whitmarsh, Team Principal for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, said: "Formula 1™ is a contest that hinges not just on raw power and speed, but also efficiency. We compete to cover the distance in the shortest possible time and the lightest, most aerodynamic car with the most efficient engine has the best chance of getting there first. Efficiency is part of McLaren's DNA and ExxonMobil has consistently innovated to help us do more with less."

Mark Humphries, Commercial Vehicle Lubricants Marketing Advisor - Europe, Africa and Middle East, ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants, says: "We look forward to seeing how the drivers respond to the challenge. Everyone involved in grand prix racing is competitive by nature and we're sure that the combination of driver skills with our range of synthetic Mobil commercial vehicle lubricants will lead to some impressive results."
