SugaRich shortlisted for National Recycling Awards

Surplus food recycler SugaRich has been shortlisted to win the Best Food Initiative in the National Recycling Awards 2015.

Paul Featherstone, Group Director of SugaRich said: “We are all very excited that SugaRich has been shortlisted for Best Food Waste Initiative 2015. Our approach helps food manufacturing businesses increase efficiency and improve sustainability. Any company can implement the SugaTrak system; it has potential to transform performance across the entire manufacturing platform.”

SugaTrak is an IT-based management information system developed by SugaRich, demonstrating excellence in tackling food wastage and providing an inspiring example of the circular economy in action.

“Our SugaTrak system has the potential to transform companies’ relationships with resources,” added Featherstone. “It is a unique and technologically ground-breaking tool that most importantly, keeps food in the food chain by reducing food losses at the manufacturing level.”

Central to the UK food supply chain, SugaRich works in close collaboration with suppliers and customers of its nutrient-rich animal feed. With a UK target to halve food waste by 2020, some of Britain’s biggest food companies are using SugaRich to convert wasteage into co-product, including Sainsbury’s, United Biscuits and Premier Foods.

“Food producers continue to attract intense scrutiny about the food waste issue,” said Featherstone, “and SugaRich is right at the heart, helping safeguard company reputations and, ultimately, supporting the UK’s zero food waste to landfill ambition.”

With an unprecedented number of entrants to this year’s National Recycling Awards, making the shortlist is a huge achievement and shows that SugaRich is deserving of its place on The London Stock Exchange’s ‘1000 Companies to Inspire Britain’ list.

The National Recycling Awards recognise and highlight the excellence and innovation present throughout the recycling and resource management sector. The Awards ceremony will be held on 1 July 2015 at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
