Dr Philip Morton, CEO of the UK's largest waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) producer compliance scheme, Repic, has been appointed as a director on the WEEE Forum board.
The organisation is a European association representing the interests of 41 electrical and electronic waste collection and recycling organisations run on behalf of producers. As a director , Dr Morton will play an instrumental role in helping to steer the association in its objective of helping to develop a more effective, efficient and environmentally sustainable European WEEE system.
The new board was appointed by a general election of WEEE Forum members. Other board members are José Ramón Carbajosa (Ecolec, Spain), Jan Vlak (Wecycle, the Netherlands), Christian Brabant (Eco-systèmes, France), Roman Tvrzník (Elektrowin, Czech Republic), Jan Vrba (Asekol SK, Slovakia) and Giorgio Arienti (Ecodom, Italy).
Repic is committed to working with the Uk and European parliament and all stakeholders working within the industry to help improve the processes that we currently have in place, and ensure that the WEEE system is as efficient as possible.
Dr Morton comments: "Repic has been closely involved with the WEEE Forum for many years, and as such, I have witnessed first-hand how effective the association has been in helping to shape the system. It's fantastic to be welcomed into such a passionate organisation and hopefully we can adopt and adapt some of the current best practices across Europe into the new UK Regulations when the recast is transposed.
"As European member states are currently in the process of transposing the recently announced revised WEEE Directive into national law, this is an extremely crucial time for the WEEE system so it's fantastic to have the opportunity to be involved in such an influential organisation at this important time."
This follows the recently announced news that Repic will be hosting this year's WEEE Forum Conference in London. This prestigious conference is held only once every two years; previous hosts have been Zurich, Vienna and Dublin, with discussions taking place on the latest developments and opportunities in the area of WEEE management. It will take place at the Guoman Tower Hotel on 20-21 September 2012.
