and turn it into a football pitch.
The former ground of Primrose Hill Cricket Club in Huddersfield is being ed into Primrose Hill Football Ground for Newsome WMC to play at. SITA UK donated a skip free of charge to the Newsome WMC team as they kicked off their pre-season training in an unusual manner by clearing the ground of rubbish that had built up over the last year.
The Primrose Hill cricket team stopped playing at the end of the 2008 cricket season, but the old clubhouse is still there. The last 12 months have seen a lot of fly-tipping on the ground, particularly in the car park area, and this is what is being cleared up by the football team ahead of the new season.
Newsome WMC FC's first XI plays in the xx division of the Huddersfield and District Association Football League. One of the team running the club is Rob Laverick, who is a supervisor at SITA UK's energy-from waste-facility near the centre of Huddersfield. Rob approached his bosses at the company and they agreed to donate a skip for a weekend to help the clean-up operation.
SITA UK's energy-from-waste facility in Huddersfield has been operating for ten years. Over 100,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste is sent to the energy-from-waste facility every year from homes and businesses across Kirklees. The energy from waste process generates enough heat and light from this for the National Grid to serve 15,000 homes.
In addition to this, over 20,000 tonnes of recyclable materials a year collected from homes across Kirklees are recycled on site at the Materials Recycling Facility next door to the EfW facility.
The company recently opened a special visitor centre at the energy-from-waste facility to help the growing number of schools, local authorities and community groups interested in how it works understand the technology and the benefits it brings.
Rob Laverick, Supervisor at SITA UK's energy-from-waste facility and manager of Newsome WMC FC, said: "Newsome WMC has had four different home grounds since we set up back in 1999, so it's great to have a proper home of our own for the new season. I'd like to thank Primrose Hill Cricket Club and SITA UK for helping make this happen, and we're looking forward to getting the new season underway."
