Pall-Ex palletised freight distribution network, shortlisted for one of Europe's most prestigious Awards

The European Supply Chain Excellence Awards, held on Thursday 12th November 2009, recognise excellence and acclaim within the industry, and Pall-Ex has been shortlisted in the Environmental Improvement Category for its pioneering Eco-Pall service.

Eco-Pall, formed with waste and recycling specialists the green house, is a cost-effective recycling take-back service that will see Pall-Ex members return recyclable waste to their depot, where it will be baled using specialist equipment supplied to them.

Adrian Russell, Pall-Ex's Managing Director, commented: "From an environmental point of view, this system has a number of benefits and will go some way to reducing carbon footprints.

"Collecting waste materials at the same time as delivering goods, means the network is both environmentally friendly and cost effective for customers who would usually pay a separate fee to have the waste removed by somebody else.

"By collecting packaging materials, members will be solving a number of issues for their customers and have a positive impact on their environmental policies."

Philip Mossop, development director from the green house, commented: "Recyclable waste has a value and when enough material is collected, we will then send a trailer to collect it and sell it on."

If the three-month trial is successful, the scheme will be implemented throughout the UK, with many of Pall-Ex's 100 member companies taking part.
