Ruth is a well-known personality in the world of logistics. She will be familiar to many members for her career with leading companies such as Exel Logistics, Gefco UK and Pearson Education, before becoming MD of Labyrinth Logistics Consulting. However, it is for founding Women in Logistics UK (WiL) that she is most recognised.
Ruth started the organisation in 2008 as a group on the professional networking LinkedIn website, and within three years it had 2,000 members and was hosting educational, industry and networking events.
Women in Logistics continues to grow yearly - it now has over 3,000 members including 600 men - and has become very influential in attracting women into the logistics profession; helping influence attitudes and ensuring supply chain professionals have a strong voice in the industry.
CILT in the UK and internationally has been a very active supporter of the role of women in our profession, and Ruth's experience will further strengthen this work. Ruth - a longstanding member of CILT - addressed the 2012 CILT International Convention and met with members of the Institute's Women in Logistics and Transport Groups from various nations.
Ruth says: 'I am honoured to be joining the Board of the CILT to represent the interests of women in the logistics sector. I have been a member for all my professional career and I am an enthusiastic advocate of the Institute's work. However I am delighted that the Board has recognised that more can be done in this vital area and I very much look forward to meeting the challenges ahead by working together.'
