Hormann goes airside

Hörmann has provided the industrial doors for the new British Airways World Cargo Premia building at Heathrow Airport.

The 7,200 sq m facility has been fitted with a variety of high-speed SPU sectional doors, high-speed 6030 vertically opening doors, steel door sets and rolling shutter fire doors.

British Airways World Cargo is one of the leading cargo airlines in the world, carrying freight, mail and courier traffic to 200 destinations in more than 80 countries. The new Premia building equips the carrier with an additional 67pc capacity to handle premium freight including temperature and time sensitive goods.

Premia's design makes it ideal for handling a vast variety of cargo and a huge emphasis has been placed on speed of throughput. Many of the doors have been incorporated into an automated material handling system which allows freight to move between airside and landside in rapid time.

The sheer volume of freight handled by Premia requires all equipment to be durable and the doors are no different. The 30 sectional doors are made up of double skinned steel sections with polyester-primed surface protection making them extremely durable. All doors were supplied with a five year warranty which included the upgrading of the counter balance system and motors.

Security is imperative with Premia being airside at Heathrow and the sturdiness and quality of the Hörmann doors comply with that aspect of the operation.

As well as being practical and reliable, the doors have an aesthetic quality that compliments the overall look of the Premia building.
