HGV Direct truck and trailer parts supplier raise 850 GBP for Help for Heroes

Truck and trailer parts supplier HGV Direct has raised £850 for the Help for Heroes charity through a series of fundraising events.

The first cheque for £500 was handed over at HGV Direct's Dewsbury Branch by Simon Smedley, MD of HGV Direct to local legend John Bentley, ex-England Rugby player and current Director of Rugby at Cleckheaton RUFC. John has been heavily involved in supporting the 'Help for Heroes' charity. The money was raised from staff, customers and guests at a special fundraising dinner.

Simon Smedley, MD comments, "Our support for Help for Heroes came about initially because a personal friend, Shan Taylor, lost his nephew Scott Gregory Taylor in Afghanistan. "Scotty", from Alpha Company, 40 Commando Royal Marines, was killed on 30th May 2010 as a result of an explosion whilst on foot patrol with Alpha Company to help reassure the local population and to increase security within the area around Sangin."

Simon sums up, "Our fundraising efforts are ongoing and we have raised a further £350 since handing over the first cheque. Our boys (and girls) are still out there putting their lives on the line and this is just one small way of showing our gratitude and reminding them they are not forgotten. These funds will help the families of our servicemen/women who have been injured or lost their lives in the line of duty."
