Having previously managed the Dobbies waste and recycling for a period of two years, Dobbies has reappointed SWR due to their innovative approach to waste and recycling and their ability to provide valuable reporting and management information.
SWR General Manager, Stephen Cameron, said: "As a member of the Garden Centre Association and with several garden centres as clients, we can comfortably claim to be specialists in this sector. However, despite all our experience in the intricacies of the market and the types of waste produced it is still important for us to invest the time to identify the specific issues at each of the Dobbies sites. For example each of Dobbies' Scottish sites would need a provision for food waste, which will soon be necessary under the new Zero Waste Scotland regulations."
SWR identified that the most efficient way of maximising the recyclable materials is to segregates all Dobbies waste onsite. This will not only ensure that recycling is maximised but that any material disposed of that has a revenue stream is taken advantage of.
Sustainability Manager at Dobbies, Richard Jardine, said: "SWR has a proven track record in providing Dobbies with an efficient, cost effective system, which will help us to increase recycling.
"I have also been impressed with the level of customer service that SWR has provided. Regular meetings and communication has been important to achieving a smooth transition from our incumbent waste provider. Ongoing communication and reporting will continue to be important as we look to implement the new waste plan."
