Countdown to the South West’s brand-new handling and storage exhibition

The doors to the final show in the ShD regional exhibition series, ShD South West, will open in just four weeks' time.

Following successful shows in Scotland and the South East, ShD South West will take place on Wednesday 12th November at the Westpoint Centre in Exeter and will feature a great range of handling and storage products and services.

Live demonstration area

There will be much for visitors to learn at ShD South West. The event – which has been launched under the title of the leading materials handling magazine, ShD: Storage, Handling, Distribution – will showcase innovative ideas to help reduce costs and maximise supply chain efficiency. With the added benefit of a live demonstration area, ShD South West promises to be highly informative and extremely time-effective for visitors.

Interesting exhibits

A diverse range of companies will be exhibiting at the show, including fork-lift firms Aisle-Master, Briggs Equipment, Linde, Narrow Aisle, Nissan, Still, Translift and TVH, as well as traction battery specialist, Norco. Visitors with an interest in packaging will be able to talk to packaging specialists Schoeller Arca Systems, Easypack, Sealed Air Ltd and Ranpak. Also present will be shrink-wrap machinery suppliers Shrinkfast and AETNA. The distribution network PalletForce will be represented, along with emissions reduction solutions provider Envirosafe and explosion protection specialist Pyroban. Other exhibitors include the supply chain software supplier, 3M; mobile data specialists, Belgravium and Psion Teklogix; logistics management solutions provider, Descartes Systems; vacuum lifting specialist, Vaculex; on-board instrumentation supplier, RDS Technology; workplace and vehicle storage systems supplier, Bott Ltd; industrial doors supplier, Hormann; automated handling suppliers, KNAPP and TGW; and racking & shelving suppliers, Link 51 and Megarax.

Great advice and solutions

Conveniently located just one mile from junction 30 of the M5, Exeter's Westpoint Centre boasts excellent transport links. Visitors to ShD South West will be able to take advantage of the considerable know-how on offer from exhibitors who have vast experience in all areas of materials handling.

Explosion proof specialist Pyroban, for example, will be urging businesses to consider how they manage risk and discuss their operations on Pyroban's stand, number 8. Pyroban's Rob Vesty explains, "Information regarding safety and company policy is dealt with in the strictest confidence and Pyroban can provide practical and realistic advice and solutions for all types of explosion risk."

Automated handling systems provider Knapp UK Ltd will present a number of its innovative solutions on stand number 30. The Austrian-owned group, which recently purchased the Swedish logistics firm Moving AB, has enjoyed its largest ever order intake in 2007-8. Says Managing Director, David James, "We have implemented some major installations in the UK recently, including solutions for John Lewis and British Gas, but we're also keen to make our expertise available to SMEs, which can often benefit enormously from introducing automation to their logistics processes."

Visitors will also be able to see a live demonstration of voice picking technology, presented by data capture and voice picking solutions specialist, Psion Teklogix, on stand number 35. The session will give visitors the chance to see at first hand the tremendous advantages that voice technology can bring to any logistics operation. Says Darrel Williams, Managing Director of Psion Teklogix, "The introduction of voice recognition systems that enable warehouse employees to have their eyes and hands free during their daily routine can have a dramatic impact on productivity levels. But it is not only beneficial in an order selection scenario. The system can also be applied to achieve significant efficiencies throughout the entire supply chain operation – from goods-in to put-away, replenishment and even dispatch." Psion Teklogix will also be unveiling an exciting and brand-new product: an extremely lightweight unit to provide exceptional functionality for supply chain, retail and service applications.

Fork-lift manufacturer Linde (stand number 2) will be promoting its range of warehouse and yard trucks, with a special focus on ride-on pallet trucks and 3-wheel electric counterbalance trucks. Featuring ergonomic design for productive operation, the Linde ride-on pallet trucks benefit from an active castor wheel system, providing an optimum combination of stability and grip in all conditions. The highly manoeuvrable 3-wheel electric counterbalance series features a unique suspension system, minimizing vibrations to ensure operator comfort. Powerful AC motors ensure high performance, says Linde, and the trucks boast three braking systems: regenerative electric braking, counter-current braking and failsafe disc brakes.

The Austrian group TGW Logistics (stand number 5) will present its capability to provide integrated handling solutions – featuring tote and carton conveyors, pallet conveyors, sorters and AS/RS technologies – in a video running on a 42" screen. The company will also be profiling its order picking solutions, including its pick-by-light/put-to-light system, Flash Pick.

Industrial door specialist, Hörmann, will display its new MZ Sentinel door, suitable for a variety of applications, on stand number 29. With a powder-coated surface finish as standard for long-lasting protection, the Sentinel features a variety of reliable locks and two security bolts.
