CITY LINK, express delivery Company, scoops a Gold award in a national health and safety awards scheme

The UK's leading premium express delivery Company is celebrating after being presented with a Gold award in a national health and safety awards scheme.

The award was one of three presented to City Link nationwide. City Link Ltd as a whole, and the Company's Wednesbury Hub, achieved Gold while the Company's Coventry Hub achieved Silver in the scheme.

Representatives from the business were presented with their awards in a ceremony at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel.

To win the awards each of the Depot General Managers were asked to complete questionnaires asking in-depth questions on a wide range of occupational health and safety issues. Everything from how the Company demonstrates its commitment to health and safety management, through to the health and safety training of the workforce, sickness levels and the reporting of accidents at work, come under close scrutiny.

Stuart Godman, Sales and Marketing Director of City Link, said: "We are honoured to have been presented with this prestigious Gold award by RoSPA in recognition of our stringent health and safety practice."

"But we are determined not to become complacent about the welfare of our colleagues. Their health and safety in the workplace remains a top priority and we will strive to achieve the Gold again next year.

Karen Farr, Head of Health, Safety and the Environment at City Link, said she was delighted with the achievement of the Company in this year's awards.

She said: "We are honoured to have been presented with this prestigious Gold award by RoSPA in recognition of our stringent health and safety practice."

She added: "City Link in its present form is still a relatively young Company - it is not yet three years since its de-franchising and acquisition of Target Express. Considering the Company is still in its formative years and this is only the third year that we have entered into the RoSPA awards I am delighted with our overall achievement - we have won Golds and Silvers every year."

The RoSPA awards are organised to promote good health and safety practice and to strive to improve management systems, in turn reducing the number of fatalities, injuries and reports of work-related stress in the workplace.

Figures from RoSPA show on average there are 350 fatalities in the workplace annually, around 1,000 deaths in work-related road accidents and more than 36 million working days lost due to work-related accidents or ill-health.

City Link, which is this year celebrating its 40th anniversary, employs nearly 6,000 people throughout the UK operating 3,000 vehicles from a network of over 85 Depots handling approximately 350,000 parcels daily.
