Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport CILT annual logistics conference proves another success

The Annual Logistics Conference and Dinner of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) held at the Marriot Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club yesterday (10th June) proved another winner for the organisation.

Delegates were well served with a high quality series of presentations, a scintillating panel discussion featuring representatives from organisations representing over 70% of the major third party logistics capacity, and an entertaining evening Dinner event. CILT Chief Executive Steve Agg said 'The Logistics Conference goes from strength to strength and we have been delighted by delegates' response to the programme, the venue and the whole event. We seem to have a winning formula.'

Chaired by CILT Vice-President Jim Spittle, the theme for the 2010 event was 'Emerging from the Recession' and over 130 delegates enjoyed presentations from Pepsico International UK Supply Planning Director Jane Burkitt; the Knowledge Economy Programme Director from The Work Foundation Ian Brinkley; Dave Lowther, Operations Services Director, Screwfix; Nick Gazzard, CEO Incept; and John Parkes, Managing-Director - UK, IDS Logistics UK Limited.

The closing session featured an 'all-star' line up of senior managers from leading 3PL operators - Graham Inglis, DHL Supply Chain; Leigh Pomlett, CEVA Logistics; Malcolm Wilson, Norbert Dentressangle; Mike Branigan, TDG; Tim Scharwath, Kuehne & Nagel; and Eric Born, Wincanton. The group responded to questions relating to current and future operating prospects, environmental, economic and employment issues and operational matters.

Guests at the event dinner listened to an address from CILT President Sir Moir Lockhead, CEO and Deputy Chairman of FirstGroup featuring the theme for his year in office - to act on and reduce the massive problem of UK youth employment.

An auction and raffle to support the CILT's Aspire project raised over £3,100.
