Wincanton driver of the year competition 2013

The UK's leading provider of innovative supply chain solutions, Wincanton, has hosted its annual Driver of the Year competition.

Wincanton is one of the transport and logistics sector's biggest employers and the annual competition, now in its eighth year, is seen as a prestigious industry accolade.

The Driver of the Year competition, held at Buckley Barracks, Hullavington, saw 28 of Wincanton's best LGV and FLT drivers go head to head in a test of their manoeuvring skills and driving competency with events such as "Blind Man's Bluff", "Ten Tilt Bowling" and "Finlay's Folly".

After a day of tough competition, Wincanton finally crowned Barnaby Moverley LGV Driver of the Year and Matthew O' Malley FLT driver of the year.

Wincanton Chief Executive Eric Born said afterwards: "The Driver of the Year competition is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the skills and professionalism of our drivers, who play an integral role in delivering excellent service to our customers whilst maintaining the upmost levels of safety."

He added: "I would like to personally thank them all for their contribution to our business."

Wincanton's Head of Operational Training, Mark Ford, who organised the event, said: "Today marks the eighth anniversary of the Driver of the Year competition and I have seen many different formats of the event during this time.

"The one thing that remains constant, however, is the desire to continually improve our driving and operating standards both in terms of safety and efficiency."
