The conclusion of industry-wide consultation to clarify the tamper evidence requirement of the mechanical seal standard introduced in March 2012 - ISO 17712:2010 Clause 6 has been welcomed by market leading security seal manufacturer TydenBrooks, in particular the introduction of a new, more workable procedure which will take effect from May next year.
Whilst Clause 6 remains part of ISO 17712, responsibility for auditing the design of seals has moved to become part of manufacturers' ISO 9000 procedures. Security seal manufacturers must now demonstrate to independent ISO 9000 auditors that the design of their seals incorporates features which resist tampering or show clear evidence where tampering has occurred. Manufacturers are being urged to adopt these changes straight away as product in the supply chain for use after May 2014 will need to carry the new level of certification to meet the C TPAT requirement of High Security Seals (H) being used.
