Toyota Industrial Equipment will be demonstrating its commitment to the environment at this year’s IMHX (Birmingham NEC, Stand 18N100, Hall 18, 13-16 March 2007).
The Toyota stand will feature the company’s groundbreaking fuel cell hybrid forklift prototype, TOYOTA FCHV-F, the first to be developed by a forklift manufacturer.
The fuel cell forklift has been developed by Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) in cooperation with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), the leading company in fuel cell vehicle development.
Fuel cell technology eliminates harmful environmental emissions. Using hydrogen as its main power source, a fuel cell forklift produces electricity without combustion and generates zero CO² emissions.
The development of the fuel cell forklift is one in a series of environmental achievements for Toyota in the materials handling sector. Toyota Industrial Equipment UK has just been nominated for a FLTA award in the environmental category for its 99% recyclable trucks, the first of their kind in the industry.
The development of recyclable forklifts is part of Toyota Industries Corporation’s (TICO) ongoing commitment to developing environmentally conscious products.
TICO sets tough environmental targets through the corporation’s Environmental Action Plan, which is updated every five years. Thanks to the concerted efforts of Toyota employees worldwide, all targets in the third Environmental Action Plan which ran from April 2001 to April 2005, were met. This included a 5 percent reduction in total CO² (carbon dioxide) emissions.
Toyota is also working on other technologies such as gasoline hybrid which will offer the benefits of lower emissions and lower fuel consumption.
Miles Griffin, Marketing Manager, Toyota Industrial Equipment said: “One of the biggest challenges facing the materials handling industry is combating climate change.
“Toyota has been working hard to improve its environmental performance. As a diverse organisation, Toyota is able to draw on the expertise of its various divisions, such as TMC, which has considerable experience and knowledge in fuel cell vehicle development.
“The company’s recent environmental achievements represent steps in the right direction for Toyota and its customers. They are also part of an ongoing and long-standing commitment to making a difference to the environment.”
