Two new silos and static blenders have been installed at Wavin's Chippenham site. Sourced from Barton Fabrications, the investment by the leading plastic pipe system supplier supports expansion of its Recycore multi-layer pipe production.
Commenting on the purchase of silos and blenders, Andrew Ryall Development Manager at Wavin said:
"Using recycled material presents additional challenges in achieving a high level of homogeneity from batch to batch.
"Barton provided a piggyback silo design, where one silo is mounted directly over another in the same housing. This double vessel allows us to store batches of plastic feedstock separately without increasing the overall storage footprint."
To achieve greater homogeneity of materials Wavin reviewed several different types of blenders including fountain blenders (also known as vertical mixers, which use a motor driven screw). The Barton static blender was selected as it combines simplicity with zero maintenance with effective feedstock mixing.
Barton Fabrications track record manufacturing and installing silos for Wavin dates back over 25 years.
Barton Fabrications, which was formed in 1981, has an established track record in silo design, manufacture and installation for the plastics and food industries. More than 1,000 Barton silos have been installed in sites that include the UK, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Thailand, Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
