Rotary International delivering disaster relief with Allibert Buckhorn

One of the world’s leading service organisations has called on materials handling specialist Allibert Buckhorn to help them provide aid relief to people affected by disasters around the world.

The Rotary Emergency Box Trust project is using plastic containers from Allibert Buckhorn to transport supplies to victims of earthquakes, tornados, floods, wildfires and volcanoes.

Rotary Clubs throughout the UK are called on to raise funds and gather vital supplies that are then packaged up in Allibert Buckhorn’s robust 108 litre Euro Attached Lid Containers (ALCs) and shipped out to disaster areas. Each container can hold enough supplies for a family of four and includes blankets, polythene for shelter and cooking equipment. The container itself can then be re-used for storage, as a sturdy table or seat and, most importantly, because they are made of hygienic plastic, as a water-purifying container.

Michael Barker from Rotary International said: “In the past we have used plywood crates to transport our supplies. However, the plastic containers are much more versatile. The fact that the Allibert Buckhorn containers are plastic means goods are well protected during transport and families can recycle the container to help with everyday needs.”

Allibert Buckhorn’s 108 litre Euro ALCs measure 710x530x390mm and can be nested when empty resulting in a space saving of up to 75%. This is especially useful when the containers are being stored waiting to be filled. The 5.7kg container incorporates an integral hinged lid enabling the containers to be stacked during transportation without damaging the goods.

Rotary International is a worldwide organisation with approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belonging to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 167 countries. Its members form a global network of business and professional leaders who volunteer their time and talents to serve their communities at home and throughout the world. The motto of Rotary is “Service above Self”. As part of its commitment to offer support and funding to humanitarian causes, Rotary International, through the Rotary Club of Denton and Audenshaw Emergency Box scheme, regularly prepares containers of medical supplies, clothing and useful household items in preparation in times of need. The filled containers are then dispatched to the Rotary Club nearest to the disaster area which then ensures that they are delivered to people in need.
