Revell to chair FTA utilities group

Mike Revell, Group Director – Plant & Transport, Clancy Docwra Ltd, has been elected Chairman of the Freight Transport Association's Essential Services Working Group (ESWG). Mr Revell will be supported by a steering group comprising Peter Tod of Morrison, Brendan Green of Edmund Nuttall Ltd, Dave Willis of May Gurney Ltd and FTA staff.

FTA formed the ESWG in 2004 to provide a forum for utilities contractors to discuss non-competitive issues arising from the impact of legislation on road transport law, health and safety, and other regulatory requirements. ESWG now comprises 43 of the UK's leading contractors supplying services to the utilities industry.

ESWG secretary (and FTA Manager – Fleet Management Information) Don Armour, said, 'This group enjoys the support of key people within the industry, who are intent on the pursuit and achievement of fleet compliance best practices, whilst highlighting the needs and the problems of operators engaged in the arena of supporting the utilities. In view of some significant legislative challenges ahead for this sector, Mike's appointment will give us real momentum in meeting these challenges head on.'

Chris Ruane, FTA Sector Head – Construction & Plant added, 'I am continually impressed by the passion and determination shown by the ESWG. We have welcomed their influence upon this important sector of FTA membership. It is not a 'talking shop', nor is it a 'closed shop', as the ESWG remains open to any FTA member contracting to any utility and/or providing essential services to the public.'
