Potter Logistics has added two new Fuso Eco Canter Hybrid vehicles to its fleet and is the first third party logistics company in the UK to purchase these eco-friendly 7.5 tonne lorries.
York's councillor for transport planning and the environment, Dave Merrett, was very complimentary about the news: "It's great to see a transport and logistics company being forward thinking in considering the impact of their business on the environment. We are proud to see a Yorkshire company taking the lead on such an increasingly important issue."
The Canter Hybrid vehicles will be based at Potter's York distribution centre (DC) and will be used specifically for Palletline operations in and around the city centre. Nick Brightey general manager of Potter Logistics' transport division and York DC explains, "These vehicles demonstrate that Potter Logistics is leading the way in environmentally friendly transportation.
"The 7.5 tonne vehicles offer us a 23% fuel saving which is not only financially good news for us, but also means that we are considerably reducing our CO2 emissions.
"We've had the Canter Hybrids fitted with tail lifts, however the truck can still carry 3.7 tonnes per load which is 1.2 tonnes more than the average weight per load of other vehicles of this size. With the ability to fit more goods into one load, it means we can deliver additional pallets every trip which again, is better economically.
"These new vehicles will be in full time operation five days a week making Palletline deliveries. One truck is in full Potter livery whilst the other has a yellow Potter cab with a Palletline body."
