P&O Ferrymasters provides support to one of Europe’s largest yarn producers

An innovative textile manufacturer that produces more than 1000 kilometres of a unique man-made fibre every second has turned to P&O Ferrymasters to help stretch its European distribution reach.

Nylstar, which produces 100,000 tonnes of yarn from six production units across Europe every year, selected Ferrymasters to freight manage part of its products distribution after a competitive electronic auction.

P&O Ferrymasters, one of Europe's largest freight management providers, currently transports more than 1000 shipments per annum to manufacturing plants in France, Spain, Germany and Italy where the raw material is treated before being transformed into millions of items of clothing - from hosiery to sportswear because of its performance and easy maintenance finish.

The contract was originally co-ordinated out of Lyon where Ferrymasters established its pan-European operational architecture. This moved to P&O's Milan offices in September 2005 with the administration handled at Rosenberg, the company's European gateway. Talks are now underway to evaluate whether it is possible to extend the contract to include Nylstar's eastern European plants.

"We identified in Ferrymasters a strong synergy in terms of their European spread and capability," said Mrs Beatrice Arlenghi, Nylstar Integrated Logistics Director.

The company has measured up well in meeting the stringent key performance indicators that our business puts upon its suppliers. These targets are driven by our own business and its position in a very competitive global textile market," she adds.

Alessandro Pagani, P&O Ferrymasters account manager based in Milan adds: "The textiles industry is particularly demanding in terms of time and market that is why Nylstar is in our portfolio of top European customers both in terms of volume and turnover which ran into six figures this year."
