PD Ports, the owner and operator of Teesport in the North East, is leading the way in portcentric logistics as its senior representatives prepare to speak at a number of this years high profile ports and logistics events.
From early March senior representatives from PD Ports will be out in force, talking about the benefits of portcentric logistics as an effective means of improving supply chains.
At Teesport, the port operator has already achieved an excellent track record in helping businesses eradicate unnecessary road miles and significantly reduce their carbon footprints. With an extensive warehousing and wet bond facility at the Port of Felixstowe and port operations at Immingham on the River Humber, PD Ports is able to offer a diverse range of portcentric logistics solutions to customers.
Needless to say, PD Ports is proving popular with its customers and the company continues to win new business. Over the past three years, the port operator has attracted new business with ASDA and Tesco - both of which have established import centres at Teesport to serve their Northern UK markets.
Since January 2009, as part of its portcentric package, PD Ports has provided the platform for ASDA to save 1,265,459 road miles - enough to make almost three trips to the moon and back. The significant saving in road miles was achieved through the success of the Ports Logical Link shipping service, which launched in January 2009. Logical Link is a coastal feeder container shipping service that offers a next day connection between Felixstowe and Teesport.
PD Ports has not only facilitated the leading retailers achieve success in improving their supply chain, it also strives to excel in providing portcentric solutions for its SME customers. Taylors of Harrogate, famous for its named products including the Yorkshire Tea brand and for its supply to the famous Bettys Tea Rooms is one of its recent success stories.
Richard Brewster, commodities shipping manager at Taylors of Harrogate said: "We have successfully worked together with PD Ports to find a solution to reduce the number of road miles used when transporting our goods to their final destination. By shipping our products direct to Teesport and storing them on-site prior to their final short leg journey to Harrogate, we will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and provide a more cost effective option for our business."
PD Ports is currently developing a business support service to assist the SME market in addressing their portcentric logistics requirements in the Teesport hinterland.
