Open day for employers to discuss logistics skills training and funding opportunities

Skills for Logistics (SfL), the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for the

UK's freight logistics industries, and the National Skills Academy for

Logistics (NSAL) are holding a joint open day for employers at SfL's

Milton Keynes offices on Thursday March 1st, 2012.

The purpose of the event is to enable employers in the logistics

sector to learn more about the range of Logistics programmes,

including apprenticeships available across the sector. Key SfL and

NSAL personnel will also be on hand to advise employers on how best to

access Government subsidies to sit alongside their own investment in

skills within their business.

Both SfL and NSAL have recently received significant public funding to

revolutionise the way skills training and development is procured and

supplied.

"Some of the biggest and most successful companies operating in the

logistics industry have realised that investing in skills training and

staff development leads directly to increased business efficiency,

whilst positioning them as employers of choice within their local

community. A more highly skilled workforce also has a positive effect

on reducing carbon emissions across a business," says Dr Mick Jackson,

Chief Executive Officer of Skills for Logistics.

He continues: "Like any other industry, in logistics there is a clear

link between a thriving business and a skilled workforce. Training is

not about altruism, it is about the essential policy of any

organisation to invest in its leading asset - the skills of its

workforce.

"We are an employer-led organisation, working to ensure that

government policy on skills and training reflects the needs of

logistics employers across the UK and we look forward to welcoming

employers in the sector to our Milton Keynes offices on March 1st."

With the support of the Skills Funding Agency the National Skills

Academy for Logistics is being shaped to meet the needs of employers

ambitious to build capability in their organisations by ensuring they

have the skilled workforces they need to compete in domestic and

global markets. The Academy will meet this requirement by providing

employers with access to a quality assured national network of

logistics skills training and development providers. "The academy will

transform the way logistics employers source training and develop

their workforce in the future" says Daryl Keyworth, Head of Operations.

The combined Skills for Logistics and National Skills Academy for

Logistics employers' open day takes place at:

12 Warren Yard,

Warren Farm Office Village,

Milton Keynes

MK12 5NW.

To ensure that those wishing to attend the event can do so without

losing time from their working day, the open day is split in to

morning and evening sessions: the morning session commences at 07.00

and concludes at 10.00 while the evening session starts at 16:00 and

closes at 20:00.
