Nynas specifies Monityre on its latest new vehicles

Following the success of the first Monityre tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) in the 42 strong truck distribution fleet at bitumen manufacturer Nynas UK, the company has now installed Monityre on all six of their latest Volvo FM12 Globetrotter 6 x 2 tractor units. These new vehicles have recently gone into service distributing the company's bitumen products from its refinery and head office in Ellesmere Port to major road construction companies across the UK.

According to Ernie Dixon, Distribution Manager at Nynas UK, "The first trial system proved to us how essential it was to have the Monityre tyre pressure monitoring system fitted to our incoming new vehicles. It's like having an insurance policy in that the system is there for when it is needed. We hope not to have to use it, but the reality is that annually we have in excess of 35 incidents involving tyres, all of which could be potentially costly."

This ongoing problem with punctures and the subsequent damage caused as a result of tyre failure is the prime mover behind the decision by Nynas to now specify the Monityre TPMS on all its future new vehicle acquisitions.

"Monityre works in a preventative way, identifying in advance any potential problems with tyres, and this enables us to plan a tyre breakdown at our choosing," commented Ernie Dixon, "With damaged air suspension and blown mudguards being the least damage you can expect from a puncture, then the true cost of a potential incident, in terms of downtime and added operating costs that result, makes the installation of Monityre well worth it."

Nynas UK operates a fleet of 42 tractor units and 80 assorted tanker trailers based at its refinery in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The first trial Monityre system went into service with them in January 2009 and since that time, Nynas has seen the benefits, in terms of reduced downtime, operating cost savings and improved safety.

"It is pleasing to see a respected company such as Nynas following through the success of their first Monityre trial, with a further order for its new vehicle acquisitions," said Paul Marriott, Operations Director at Safe Europe plc, manufacturers of the TPMS, "the trial system demonstrated very quickly the significant benefits of running a TPMS and we are pleased to play our part in helping them reduce the number of incidents of tyre failure."

Monityre from Safe Europe plc is a groundbreaking tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) specifically designed for commercial vehicles and tractor/trailer combinations. The system consists of four main finished components - the Pressure (and Temperature) sensors (one per tyre), the In Cab DIN display unit, and in the case of tractor/trailer combinations, the trailer mounted Smart Booster and the unique programming Hand Tool.
