With a varied career, he initially trained to become a Navy marine mechanic at HMS Sultan, Plymouth, where he remained for five years. He has gone on to enjoy a number of engineering roles, working on a wide array of technical equipment.

As part of his new role, Mic’s responsibilities will include the installation and commissioning of Riverside’s balers and compactors; reading and interpreting engineer drawings for more complex projects; repairing, servicing and reporting on the operational effectiveness of client machines, as well as delivering staff training. As a result, much of his work will be carried out off-site.

Commenting on his reasons for joining, Mic said: “In my previous position I was either predominantly factory-based, or limited to a number of locations. Because of this, I’m already relishing the opportunity to travel up and down the country, along with the chance to interact with so many different people on a daily basis.

“As the lead engineer in the company, I am responsible for maintaining the good name of the firm, and ensuring positive customer relations continue. I am looking forward to the challenges involved, and already feel to be a key member of the team.”

Managing Director of Riverside, Jonathan Oldfield, stated: “Mic has slotted into the Riverside jigsaw perfectly. He has such a broad range of engineering knowledge and skills, that he is already proving to be a huge asset, and I look forward to his career evolving with us.”

Mic added: “Looking to the future my aim is to assist in the continued growth of the firm, and eventually to oversee a much larger team of multi-skilled engineers.”

Riverside – which also supplies consumables in addition to its wide range of baling solutions – recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in business. In this time, it has installed over 2,000 machines across the UK, and has recently launched a flexible baler hire service.
