Norbert Dentressangle Logistics UK is lining up the next group of managers to undertake its unique Foundation Degree in Leadership and Management.
Introduced in 2008, the programme is the first in the country to offer the ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management) Level 5 Extended Diploma in Leadership and Management to middle managers as part of a Foundation Degree.
22 delegates are currently approaching the half way mark of the two-year course, while up to 25 others will join them in September.
Delivered in collaboration with The University of Northampton, the course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the business and the logistics sector. Covering modules such as team leadership, personal development and Health & Safety, all the assignments are work based to enable delegates to incorporate their studies into their daily work activity.
Further to a strategic talent review, Norbert Dentressangle sought to implement a programme, which provided talented middle managers with the necessary support and training to help them fulfil their potential. In addition, for those managers within Norbert Dentressangle with few academic qualifications, the programme will offer them an opportunity to achieve a degree - thus rewarding them with accredited recognition for their experience and competence.
Programme leader from The University of Northampton, Mike Fearey said, "The standard of work from the students has been extremely impressive. The average marks are very high indeed, much higher than similar programmes delivered both within the university and at other organisations. This is testament to the support shown by the organisation and the level of commitment and determination demonstrated by the students, who are trying to juggle very busy day jobs with an extremely in depth and intense development programme."
Brian Murray is General Manager at Norbert Dentressangle's Bellshill RDC, and is currently working towards the Degree. "With most of the modules being work based it has allowed me to put into practice what I have learnt in the classroom," he said. "Most importantly, I firmly believe that I will be a better leader as a result of what I have learnt from being on this course."
Chris Dolby, Norbert Dentressangle's Learning Development Manager has also been delighted with the success of the programme. "Since beginning the course, three delegates have already been promoted to more senior positions," said Chris. "The feedback from students has been extremely positive and we're confident that we can replicate these achievements with the new delegates. Most importantly, the current participants have developed and applied knowledge that will enable them to deliver measurable business improvements, as well as enhancing their own career prospects."
