Buffaload Logistics, the double-decker temperature controlled logistics specialist has opened a new cold store and cross-docking facility in Skelmersdale which, says the company, provides a strategic distribution bridge between its Scotland depot, Ireland and the rest of the UK.
Based on an 8 acre site with 40,000 sq ft of storage, the new premises has chilled and ambient storage facilities and will be used for consolidation, cross docking, picking and distribution to destinations throughout the UK.
“Our aim is to create a cohesive distribution network,” explains Sales Director Graham Usher, “which enables the Buffaload fleet to connect at strategic locations, thereby optimising routes and reducing handling for our customers throughout the UK. The new Skelmersdale site is ideally located and builds on our existing storage and distribution centres in Livingston, Scotland, Wigan, Avonmouth and Ellington in Cambridgeshire.”
Buffaload has recently expanded its temperature controlled double-deck logistics fleet and is also growing the rental fleet with double-deckers, dry freight trailers, city trailers and tractor units. The company is therefore able to provide a comprehensive choice of service according to the specific transport and distribution needs of retailers and food producers alike. Customers can now opt for short or long term trailer hire with the option of a tractor unit and skilled driver from any Buffaload facility.
“The Skelmersdale storage and distribution centre will further improve our UK network offering and fits well with our stated growth plan,” adds Managing Director Julie Feltwell. “We now operate the largest independently owned and managed double-deck logistics operation in the UK and our trailer and vehicle rental fleet is also gathering strength.”
