New polyurethane crusher backing compound undermines quarrying costs

Two Midlands-based companies have launched a polyurethane crusher backing

compound, which will deliver significant cost savings to the quarrying and

mining industries worldwide. The product is used as a shock-absorbing compound for cone crushing machines, used extensively in quarrying and mining operations.

Developed by Tamworth-based Crushers-UK, and Central Tapes and Adhesives

(CTA), from Sutton Coldfield, the non-flammable product offers many

advantages, including reduced health & safety issues and lower transport

costs, compared to epoxy-based products. The launch follows extensive testing over the last two years in laboratories as well as on site, and both Crushers-UK and CTA are excited about the prospects.

"This polyurethane formulation is similar to existing products in the market

place. However, our product requires no preheating in cold conditions and is

easily mixable. Additionally, it offers good compressive and flexural

strength, with minimal shrinkage," explained Mark Plimmer, Managing Director

of CTA.

"Low viscosity means it is easy to mix and pour, ensures visual confirmation

of the mixed product and free flow into the smallest cavities and contours

of manganese steel", he added.

The packaging format will be familiar to service engineers. They come in

10-kilo kits, comprising part A in a lever latch metal pail, and part B in a

plastic poly bottle. The crusher backing is available ex-stock, with a

minimum order quantity of five kits per order. Also on offer are 250 ml tins

of release agent.

"The crusher backing protects against impact and shock vibrations, and

extends the life of machinery and equipment, as well as boosting

productivity. It is easily applied by personnel operating machinery, with

minimal training and offers maximum savings on labour," continued Mr

Plimmer.

"This venture into a specialist market is very exciting for CTA and

complements our comprehensive range of high performance adhesive products",

he added.

Other CTA products used on Crushers-UK machines include Anaerobic Thread

lockers and the Bolt Lock range.

Greg Shipley, Design Director at Crushers-UK, commented: "The crusher

backing has been specifically manufactured for the quarrying, demolition and

recycling industries. It will offer substantial cost reductions and will be

a valuable new product within the Crushers-UK range."For more information on the Crusher Backing Compound, or any of the Crushers-UK products, visit www.crushers-uk.com.
