ByBox, the leading in-night network that specialises in delivering parts and equipment before 8.00am to mobile workers and field engineers across the UK using a unique secure locker system, is introducing more new technology to further enhance customer service and shipment traceability.
A new handheld computer issued to all ByBox drivers will enable the company to optimise its delivery performance by improving its ability to track packages more effectively throughout the delivery chain.
The system will also help ByBox identify and fix any potential problems en-route more quickly, so that they don't impact on the company's ability to deliver on time each day to more than 1400 drop-off points around the country.
In addition, the handhelds will be used to assist shipment sorting at ByBox' distribution centres in the UK, Ireland and France.
Explaining the move, ByBox Head of Innovations, Mike Boxwell said "We have always employed the latest technology in our quest to give a reliable and consistent service, and to this end our drivers have been equipped with hand-held computers for some time to help them track collections and deliveries.
"Having used Dolphin 7200 units successfully for a number of years, it was time to upgrade. After careful research we chose the Dolphin 7900 model with integrated GPS tracking and GSM/GPRS.
"To accompany this, and reflect our changing needs, the ByBox in-house development team designed some new software to integrate into the hand-held units. At the same time, we selected Unique ID as the most capable firm to modify the Dolphin 7900 units to precisely meet our requirements, including GPS tracking.
"Unique ID was the only supplier we found with the technical ability and flexibility we needed to ensure we got exactly the right end product for our business needs.
"I'm pleased to report that Unique ID has performed as expected and we are currently introducing the new hand-held units into the delivery system. I am delighted with the cooperation we have received from all parties involved in this project and believe our customers will soon be experiencing the benefits.
"They rely on ByBox to get their urgent parts and equipment to mobile workers on time and in good condition, and with the new hand-held computers providing an even more accurate tracking capability this process will be greatly improved," he adds.
