Menzies Logistics Solutions has started delivering stock to 110 WHSmith stores in the north of England as part of a three-year deal worth £1.5 million.
Drivers from the logistics division of Menzies Distribution now deliver a wide range of goods including DVDs, books, e-Readers and confectionary to shops in Chester, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield and York.
All stock is packed in pallets or cages at WHSmith's distribution centre in Birmingham before being delivered to warehouses in Chester, Preston and Leeds, owned by Menzies Distribution.
Menzies Logistics Solutions' General Manager Stuart McLean said: "We are delighted to have started providing final mile deliveries for WHSmith. The geographic spread of our warehouses means we are able to offer them a truly competitive deal and reduce road miles for their stock. We are also easily able to deliver anytime during the day or night.
"Our sophisticated transport management system means we offer detailed reporting, our telematics means we can pinpoint any vehicle's location at any time, and we have given WHSmith a dedicated customer service phone number should further support be needed at any time."
He added: "We have focused on providing a seamless transition for WHSmith - all of our drivers had extra training and visited the stores ahead of our new contract beginning.
"For those stores where we already deliver newspapers and magazines each morning there is the possibility of even more consolidation of services in the future."
