Palletways, Europe's largest palletised freight network, has announced that 100% of all waste created at its National Hub in Lichfield will be recycled as part of its wider commitment to promote high standards of environmental management.
The announcement follows the creation of a new partnership with recycling specialists Willshee's Skip Hire, who will provide a dedicated service to the National Hub, alongside investment in new equipment to ensure all 100 tonnes of wood, paper, cardboard and plastic produced on site each month are recycled.
This forms part of Palletways' renewed efforts to improve the environmental sustainability of its operations and its commitment to attain its ISO 14001 accreditation for designing and implementing effective environmental management systems.
Andy Turner, Managing Director of Palletways, said: "This investment shows how seriously we take our responsibility towards the environment and we envisage putting in place similar arrangements at our other hubs around the UK. It follows the opening of our Northern Hub in November 2012, which has cut 1,000,000 road miles annually".
Dean Willshee, Director of Willshee's Skip Hire, said: "We are delighted to be working with Palletways. We will be providing two staff members who will be dedicated to waste management on site, and who will also provide advice on best practice to reduce the amount of waste material produced".
Palletways was recently awarded 'Best Place to Work' at the Express and Star Business Awards 2013, which assessed, amongst other criteria, dedication to high environmental standards.
Palletways has over 100 members in the Palletways UK network - Europe's largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. The company's distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies who share each other's resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before.
