Konecranes' already exemplary record within the field of health and safety received further recognition recently, when the UK operation received a Silver Medal at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents 2013 Occupational Health and Safety Awards.
Recognising corporate commitment to accident and ill health prevention, the award made to Konecranes - a leading supplier of overhead cranes and lifting equipment and operators of UK's largest crane service network - was within the Achievement category. Indeed Konecranes is no newcomer to the ROSPA Awards - the largest and longest running programme of its kind in the UK that is now in its 57th year - having been a previous Gold Medal recipient as recently as 2011/2012.
Commenting on Konecranes' latest awards success, Director of Market Area - West Europe, Pat Campbell said: "The ROSPA Awards are extremely well supported by a host of major UK and overseas companies and are internationally acclaimed for acknowledging success within the field of health and safety. Not surprisingly, we are understandably delighted to have once again received recognition for our ongoing and often pioneering work within what is an increasingly important part of the overall business."
Looking to build on this latest awards success, Konecranes' UK HSEQ team (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality) aims to use it as a stepping stone to becoming recognised as a world leader achieving ongoing world class performance with regards to health and safety across all aspects of the business, something that UK Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Manger Dave Harvey is keen to stress.
As Dave injects: "With the UK already holding the Konecranes Global Corporate Safety Award across the 48 worldwide territories where it has a presence, we shall look to use our latest success at the ROSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards to reaffirm our rigorous stance towards delivering effective and workable health and safety management systems and methodologies that benefit each and every Konecranes employee. Safety must always be our number one priority and keeping that at the forefront of everyone's mind is vital. Our ongoing approach will be to deliver improved performance by fostering a safety culture right across the business."
Concluding he said: "Since 2007 we have seen a year-on-year downward trend in accident occurrence, despite introducing greater transparency to accident reporting systems. This is something that we shall understandably look to build on moving forwards."
With a 500 plus UK workforce, which includes the country's largest crane service team of some 280 technicians, Konecranes is in the process of strengthening its team of HSEQ team, the aim being to make it six strong over the coming months.
