A partnership between Robert Wiseman Dairies, Tetra Pak and The Manufacturing Institute has provided school children with the opportunity to design a range of environmentally friendly milk packaging.
Four lucky kids (aged 7 to 15) from Warrington, Flintshire, Lancaster and Clitheroe won the 'Milk It' competition to design the Robert Wiseman Dairies range of Guy Fawkes milk cartons – promoting firework safety.
The designs by Emma Woodhouse, Molly Robert, Hannah Lewis and Alicia Wade will appear on over 2 million milk cartons nationwide from 20th October.
As part of their prize the winners got to see their designs being printed onto the cartons during a tour of the Tetra Pak factory at Wrexham.
The 'Milk It' competition is part of The Manufacturing Institute's 'Make It in Manufacturing' education programme designed to make children aware of the exciting range of career opportunities available in manufacturing industry.
Sandy Wilkie, sales and marketing director at Robert Wiseman Dairies, said: "It's well known that kids love drinking milk so giving them the opportunity to use their imaginations to design the packaging is a natural fit and I think they have done a fantastic job.
"The kids responded to this unique opportunity to design something that will end up on thousands of breakfast tables up and down the country. The designs combine the fun element of Guy Fawkes day with the important safety messages not to play with fireworks and keep clear of the bonfire."
Richard Hands, Environment Manager at Tetra Pak, commented: "Sustainability is the only way forward. We see that encouraging the next generation to apply their talents to efficient, creative and environmentally-responsible manufacturing will be key to the continued success of companies like Tetra Pak."
Nicola Eagleton-Crowther, Make It in Manufacturing campaign manager added: "Milk It was a fun way of the involving children in the manufacturing process and demonstrating that this is a career option for creative thinkers who want to shape their environments and the products that everybody uses. The fantastic designs we received showed that there's certainly no shortage of future talent out there."
The four designs will be featured on Robert Wiseman Dairies 500ml and 1 litre variants of whole and semi-skimmed milk from October 20th for three weeks and available nationwide.
