JGL promotes safety and efficiency in arial access

JLG Industries Inc, a pioneer and world-leader in the fast-growing aerial access business, is a new exhibitor at IMHX, and is taking the opportunity to showcase some of its latest equipment which plays an increasingly important role in providing safe and efficient working conditions in the workplace.

'Working at height' is well-recognised as a potentially hazardous task, and strong measures are being introduced throughout industry to enforce higher standards of safety.

JLG offers one of the widest range of options available, covering practically every aspect of 'working at height', from the manufacturing, building and construction industries, to plant maintenance, retail outlets and distribution, factory stores and warehousing, and even in the entertainment and events sector.

In Hall 19 at the IMHX show in Birmingham, JLG is displaying a selection of nine battery-powered machines from its wide range of more than 80 different types of aerial access platforms, including compact vertical mast stock-pickers, scissor lifts and articulated boom lifts.

A major feature of JLG's professional service to industry in the UK, to promote and improve safe and efficient working practice, and particularly aimed at end-users who may not be familiar with the equipment, is the company's dedicated Customer Solutions Group which has been established with a team of specialists to give guidance on the best working practice for working at height in all manner of locations and situations.

The service includes site surveys, and advice on the most suitable choice of equipment, taking into consideration all the implications of the latest Health and Safety regulations. For new users of powered access equipment, JLG also provides the facility of demonstration machines, and IPAF-approved training for new operators.

In addition, and recognising the complementary nature of these products in modern materials handling, JLG has created an alliance with a number of selected fork-lift truck suppliers to provide a truly integrated and comprehensive review of customers' handling needs.

The full JLG range includes:

Vertical Mast Personnel Lifts and Stock Pickers The manually-propelled and self-propelled vertical mast machines with non-marking tyres are ideal for indoor activities. They meet the need for compact and affordable powered access in confined spaces - for low-level stock picking and checking, and for cleaning and maintenance duties - and are a more efficient purpose-made alternative to ladders and fork-lift cage attachments. They come in a variety of sizes and configurations, giving working heights up to 13m, some with rotating masts and jib extensions to give them even greater versatility. Special adaptations are possible for specialist applications such as in the aircraft industry, or in studios and theatres for the entertainments and events industry.

Scissor-lifts Where longer platform decks are required, with space for more men and equipment, for cleaning, repairs or maintenance work for instance, the range of JLG scissor-lifts provides machines from the compact Model 1930ES with platform height of 7.72m, and larger machines with platform heights up to 34 m, with diesel or electric power, for inside or outside use.

Boom-lifts In addition, JLG has an extensive range of Telescopic and Articulating Boom Lifts, ranging from the compact electric and multi-power booms for factory and warehouse operations, to the much larger diesel-powered rough-terrain machines that provide 'ultra-high' platform heights up to 46m, and with outreach up to 24m.

Telescopic Handlers JLG's European range of Telescopic Handlers currently comprises 14 models from 2.6t to 4t capacity, with lift heights up to 17m, and all with a complementary comprehensive range of specialist attachments for building, construction, agriculture and materials handling. They feature hydrostatic or powershift drive systems, with four-wheel drive, and 3-mode four-wheel-steer (4x4x4) configuration, and are available with interchangeable pallet forks and a variety of attachments and loading buckets.

Commenting on the growing importance of this type of equipment and the need to promote it at IMHX, JLG UK's General Manager Simon Cracknell said, "The modern workplace provides various challenges when working at height, whether as part of the operation or in the maintenance of a facility. Solutions to safely working at height have dramatically improved in line with the latest Health and Safety regulations, which clearly spell out the responsibilities of employers to provide a safe working environment. But in addition to complying with the latest safety standards, these machines, with the associated training, also contribute significantly to overall efficiency, with a variety of cost-effective solutions for practically every sector."
